The Sunday evening service has a very different feel, flavour and taste to what happens in the morning.
For a start, it is a joint service attended by members from both St Luke's and Moor Lane Churches. The numbers are smaller, compared to the morning as it is attended by adults and teenagers since there are no youth club activities or crèche facilities. One advantage is there is physically more room giving a choice of where to sit or move about which some people find more relaxing.
The general tenor is for something more reflective. The worship time is sustained, more space is given for the working of the Holy Spirit and there is extra time for corporate and private prayer. There is Holy Communion (the bread and wine) depending on the week of the month. The sermon can be a little more personal and challenging than in the morning - but on a different topic. Sometimes there is experimentation with different styles or the spontaneous re-ordering of the service schedule to capture the mood and allow God to move in a way not constrained by set patterns of worship.
One of the great strengths of St Luke's with Moor Lane Church is the variety between the three regular services, morning at St Luke's, morning at Moor Lane and joint evening service (held at St Luke's). There is every opportunity for freedom of expression and to always feel included whether you are new to the faith or have been a Christian for years. Whilst God can touch you at any time, whether in a church building or not, many people have said they feel the evening service allows God to speak to them more clearly through the sermon and worship.
Like the morning service, there is a special team of people who will be pleased to pray with you or for you. Many of the regular morning congregation attends the evening service too.
