St Lukes Cranham with Moor Lane Church

Services - Funeral information

When someone you love dies

A funeral marks the close of a human life on earth. It is the opportunity for family and friends to express their grief, to give thanks for the life which has now completed its journey in this world and to commend the person into God's keeping.

Arranging a funeral

If you’ve just been bereaved, your first point of contact will normally be a local funeral director. If you’d like a member of the clergy from St Luke’s with Moor Lane Church to be involved in the funeral, please ask the funeral director to contact us before the date is fixed so we can make sure that someone is available.  The same applies if you’d like to hold the funeral in church so we can make sure it’s free.

Once the funeral is booked, the person taking the funeral will arrange to come and meet the next of kin to talk about the arrangements and the kind of service you would like.  They might also ask for some details of the person who has died to help prepare a eulogy.  They will also give you what we call a 'bereavement pack' which contains some information on who you might need to contact, how you may be reacting to the death and where to find support if you feel that is needed.

Bereavement support

After the funeral, one of our bereavement team will contact you and arrange to come and see you at a later date if that would be helpful.  If we can offer support in any other way, before or after the funeral, please let us know.

You will also receive an invitation to our special service held on Remembrance Sunday here at St Luke’s for those who have been bereaved in recent years and who would like a public opportunity to remember their loved ones.

We also run a six week Bereavement Support Group for those who have been bereaved and feel the need to share their feelings and concerns in the safety and security of a small group.  If at some time you would like to become involved in one of these groups do please contact us at the church office.
