From June 2008, any person who has been baptised will be welcome to receive Bread & Wine at St Luke's and Moor Lane.
Any person includes young people at whatever age their parents/guardians feel that they are ready to do so. This is a subjective decision and will be decided by individual parents/guardians for their own children according to their own integrity and beliefs.
Practically, in situations of very young children, it may be easier for the parents/guardians* to administer the sacrament. Simply put, parents/guardians can take bread and give it to their children. Parents/guardians can hold the cup and give it to their children. (*This assumes the parents/guardians themselves are baptised and receiving communion. If not, they should be encouraged to do so first.)
We will have non-alcoholic wine available for adults and young children who for whatever reason feel it is not appropriate for them to take alcohol.
St Luke's with Moor Lane will still encourage Confirmation for all baptised persons.
If you have any questions, or concerns there is a helpful document which was distributed at the April Annual Church Meeting, and available on subsequent Sundays. This document sets out the Policy in full and gives helpful questions and answers. If you have not read it and would like to do so, then please ask for this from the Church office.
